Luísa Margarida Martins

Luísa Margarida Martins is Full Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal. She serves as Vice President for Scientific Affairs of the Department, coordinator of the PhD Programme in Chemistry, co-founder of the PhD Programme in Catalysis and Sustainability, and member of the Board of Técnico Doctoral School.

Luísa’s research focuses on applying green chemistry principles to develop improved catalytic processes for the synthesis of large-scale commodities, carbon dioxide fixation and biomass valorisation. Her preferred catalysts are the C-scorpionate complexes.

Luísa has been recognized by Stanford University among the world’s top 2% most cited researchers since 2019. She is FRSC, Vice President of the Portuguese Chemical Society, President of the International Research Association on Circular Economy (IRACE) and the Portuguese Representative of the Division (II) – Inorganic Chemistry – of IUPAC.
